KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 — Pakatan Harapan’s bickering will cost it the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections, said a political analyst citing the Sarawak election.
Universiti Industri Selangor's (Unisel) academic Dr Hamdan Mohd Salleh said voters were growing “fatigued” by the continued infighting and will lose faith in the opposition pact.
“The bickering must stop, then only we can talk about forming the government,” he said during a forum last night.
“If this continues in the two by-elections, it will be a very clear manifestation… he signs are there,” Hamdan said.
He added that failure to address the internal feuds will result in the pact losing Chinese support in the same way it did in Sarawak.
Barisan Nasional swept to victory in the May 7 Sarawak election, winning 72 of the 82 seats available.
DAP came away with five seats, 12 fewer than in 2011. PKR defended all three, but made no progress elsewhere.
The Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections will be held on June 18, and were triggered by the death of the incumbents in a helicopter crash ahead of the Sarawak poll.
